City of Music

Veszprém won UNESCO’s City of Music title in 2019, as the first Hungarian city. A tangible love of music defines the city’s cultural strategy as well as the everydays of its residents, bringing the title to full bloom in recent years. Joining the network came with a new level of visibility, offering global meetups where Veszprém can present its deep-seated musical affiliation.

Cities of Music from around the world met up in London, Canada, where Anna Isola of Hangvető presented Veszprém’s music strategy and actions to a group of experts. These occasions provide great opportunities for networking, and raising the city’s profile, stimulating cooperation and cultural tourism.

The annual conference of Creative Cities in Istanbul offers the next such opportunity, with the musical cluster convening at dedicated programs. The 3-day event serves as a mutual exchange for the cities’ representatives to discuss best practices and share outstanding projects.

Veszprém’s City of Music title has strengthened its position on Europe’s cultural map, and as a potential partner in collaborative projects. The ECoC year will undoubtedly attract further attention and visitors to the first Hungarian City of Music.
